Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EPOXY AND POLYASPARTIC COATING?
A polyaspartic top coat is far less affected by the stress put on concrete floors that comes with shifting temperatures. Unlike polyaspartic, epoxy doesn't expand and contract well with temperature changes, which causes cracks and delamination (when a coating lifts, chips, and peels) to occur. However, epoxy is designed to penetrate deep into the concrete. High quality industrial grade epoxies like the one we use also has moisture blocking properties. Therefore, the best result is obtained by using a hybrid system. The epoxy we used is equipped with 8 lbs of MVE (moisture vapor emissions) blocking power and actually penetrates the concrete floor to obtain long-lasting results from the start. The polyasparatic top coat prevents cracks and delamination.
CAN'T I JUST BUY EPOXY FROM MY LOCAL STORE AND DO IT MYSELF?
These DIY epoxy kits consist of a very low quality epoxy and a tiny amount of flake. Without the proper equipment, the concrete surface cannot be properly prepared. Usually, no clear coat is applied over the flake. This leads to chipping and loose flake. All of these very low quality “epoxy” coating installations will eventually fail. We use industrial grade epoxy applied to a carefully prepared concrete surface and a high-quality, long lasting topcoat that is resistant to normal wear and tear that a garage floor is subject to. (See "What is the difference between epoxy and polyasparatic coating?")
WHY SHOULD I INVEST IN A HIGH-QUALITY EPOXY/POLYASPARATIC FLOOR COATING?
This type of garage floor is stronger than regular concrete and will not stain from accidents such as oil leaks/spills or brake fluid. They are resistant to tire marks and extremely easy to clean. Additionally, they give your garage a sleek, finished look and they are completely customizable.
MY GARAGE FLOOR COATING IS FLAKING / PEELING. HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY NEW FLOOR WON’T DO THE SAME?
Peeling/flaking may be due to incorrect preparation of the concrete, and/or low quality materials. We will prep the floor with the right equipment and materials and use the highest quality industrial grade products. Our floors are guaranteed to never detach from the concrete slab.
IS THERE A WARRANTY?
There is a limited adhesion warranty offered by the supplier. This is 10 years for residential applications, and 3 for external/commercial applications. See our page "Warranty" for more information, or contact us with any questions using the contact form that can be found on the bottom left of any page.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS? WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Before the job can be started, everything needs to be cleared from the garage floor. Most installations take 1-2 days. The new coating can accept light foot traffic in 24 hours, and light weight items may be placed on the floor after 48 hours. It can be fully used / driven on after 72 hours.
WHAT ABOUT ALL THE THINGS IN MY GARAGE?
The floor needs to be completely cleared prior to installation. Items stored off the floor, such as on shelves or hanging, may be left there. One common solution is to rent a POD to store items. We are happy to help you move any heavy items that you can’t move yourself.
THERE IS A WATER SOFTENER/WATER HEATER/SINK/ETC. ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. DO THEY NEED TO BE REMOVED?
No. We will carefully go around any permanent fixtures.
WILL THE FLOOR BE SLIPPERY?
No, not under normal circumstances. However, any completely sealed surface could become slippery when very wet. This is especially possible on porches or lanais that may be exposed to the elements. In this case, you can choose to add grit to the clear coat to reduce risk.
OTHER COMPANIES ARE MUCH CHEAPER OR MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE - WHY?
We encourage you to research the company that you are getting an estimate from. Compare the quality of materials that will be used. A low price can be an indication of lower-grade materials. Additionally, franchises will usually charge more per square foot than locally owned businesses.
CAN I CREATE A CUSTOM COLOR?
Yes, though there may be a small additional cost.
WHAT KIND OF MATERIALS DO YOU USE?
The materials are supplied by Versatile, a family-owned company centrally located in Dallas, Texas. The materials are a 4195 Epoxy, a pigmented primer, flake base coat and a Polyaspartic Topcoat. See the page "About Our Epoxy Coatings" to learn why these materials are superior.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
Checks, cash or Zelle.
